Car Boot Sale and Sand Sculpture Event

Saturday August 7th 2021 11am – 3pm

We are very much looking forward to welcoming you as a Seller, Buyer or Sculptor at our Car Boot Sale and Sand Sculpture Event!

We hope the following information will be helpful to you, whichever you are.

Where is the event?

It is at Boom Beach, in Mellon Charles. Follow the signs to Aultbea and continue through Ormiscaig and Mellon Charles until you come to a sharp bend to the right and a turn off to the left. You will need to take the turn off to the left (shown below). The event will be clearly signposted, and there will be Glad Rags to help guide you in the right direction! Click on the map image to see where you need to go!

When do I need to arrive?

Sellers need to arrive at 10.00am and be set up by 10.45. Buyers and sculptors should arrive no sooner than 11am, to avoid congestion and confusion.
Sellers, Buyers and Sculptors will be given clear instructions upon arrival. Sellers will have received an email ahead of the event with details.

Will there be food and toilets?

We are advising people to bring a picnic (excellent food can be found at Laide Shop and Aultbea Stores, which has a deli takeaway). There will be takeaway tea and cakes available at one of the stalls.
We are advising people coming to buy or sculpt to ‘Go Before You Go’. There is a public toilet in Aultbea on Birchburn and also at The Perfume Studio nearby, if you are having food or drinks there.

Will it be safe?

Traffic into and out of the site will be carefully managed, and we have completed a Highland Council Risk Assessment to help us keep everybody safe. The Car Boot Sale counts as an Open Market, which is considered safe in Level 0. You will need to consider your own safety and whether wearing your face mask is important to you, as it will not be a requirement for this outdoor event. Likewise with hand sanitation.

There will be a First Aid Tent on-site, with basic facilities. We have ensured good 4G phone signal is available and will be keeping a safe lane for Emergency Vehicles, which we very much hope won’t be needed!

!!It is important to note that we will not be supervising unattended children at the beach, and participation in the Sand Sculpture Event must be by accompanied children only (or unaccompanied adults, of course!). We cannot accept responsibility for beach or water safety.

What if it rains? Will the event still go ahead?

Please come prepared for the odd shower. We are keeping an eye on the forecast and at the moment it looks OK. If there is a big change and high winds or heavy rain are forecast, we may have to postpone or cancel the event and will do our best to inform stallholders and the public in this case.

How Do I enter the Sand Sculpture Event, and what are the Prizes you promise us?

Anyone can enter the event, and we’re really looking forward to seeing what people create in the sand.
We have asked each stallholder to donate a prize, so everybody creating a sculpture will have something to take home!
All entrants into the Sand Sculpture Event will be asked to vote for their favourite sculpture, and the top 3 will have an additional prize provided by either Oran-Na-Mara (Tea and Cake for 4 people), Pool House in Poolewe (Cream Tea for 4 people) or The Perfume Studio (A Gift Box from their shop).
You will be given clear instructions upon arrival at Boom Beach.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are welcome, but as this is a family event and will include delicate things like sand sculptures and loaded tables, dogs must be kept on a lead within the Boom area and on the beach. There is a grassy area for walking a dog, but please ensure dog mess is picked up and taken away as we will not have disposal facilities.

What is the charge to sell from a Car Boot?

Aultbea Area Together have worked to create and facilitate this event and have chosen to make it free to sell, as the sellers themselves are doing a lot of the hard work in making the event possible!
Money raised will be for the individuals selling, or the organisations/groups they are selling on behalf of. Aultbea Area Together will have a small amount of things to sell, just to cover our advertising costs and any expense incurred making the site safe. We are not raising funds for our group at the sale other than this, as we are all about supporting local causes and businesses already in existence.

Is there Anything Else I need to know?

Yes. We are very privileged to have been granted permission by the M.O.D. to use this facility. We must leave no trace that we have been here, and would like all stallholders and attendees to take away their own litter/rubbish. This is very important if we find the day is successful and we want to do it again!

We’d also advise that you bring plenty of cash, as cards obviously won’t work out here!

Have a great day! We hope the weather helps make it a day to remember.
